Implants

Unhappy with missing teeth and gaps in your smile?

Dental implants are normally the best way to replace teeth that are missing or beyond repair. They are made from titanium, and are inserted into the bone. Once in place, they are used to provide a stable support onto which a crown is placed.

Why replace missing teeth?

Not having all of your teeth can not only affect your self-esteem and confidence, but can also have an impact upon how you chew, speak and the way you bite, which can cause problems to your jaw.

Why choose a dental implant?

Implant supported teeth are the closest possible thing to your natural teeth, providing a long-term solution to your dental problems, which can often last a lifetime. Just like your natural teeth, they allow you to eat all of the foods you like, and are easy to keep clean and floss. They can be placed without impacting upon surrounding healthy teeth, unlike certain bridges. They are also fixed in place, and are aesthetically more pleasing than dentures.

What happens during dental implant surgery?

Under a local anaesthetic, a small cut is made into the gum, and a titanium screw is placed into the bone. It takes 8 – 12 weeks for this to heal before the abutment which holds the new crown can be introduced.

Once your mouth is healed, a mould is taken to create your custom-made abutment, after which a crown is fitted which resembles your missing tooth.

Implant Case Study

“If you have ongoing problems with a bridge, crown or broken/cracked tooth and the only option put to you is an implant, I would suggest you seriously think about it. I am in the process of having an implant done at All Smiles. It is quite a big decision. It is surgery. And yes, when they all gown up it does start to feel like a scene from ER. But, it is actually quite reassuring that everything is completely sterile and disinfected.

It was surprisingly gentle and carefully done. I did actually feel quite calm. It is a lot of work for the dentist; at the end of the day you just lie there and look at the ceiling.

For me, so far so good…I am very satisfied. I would highly recommend All Smiles for implants.
Just for the record, I am 45 and when I asked how long an implant would last was told that they used to say a lifetime but now they are saying you can expect up to 38 years. I guess they are doing research all the time. But I did kind of think that should see me out!”
